Samsung Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay Media Launch
The Samsung Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay Media Launch was successfully organized on 10th September 2007 at 2.30 p.m. at OCM Olympic Museum, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. HRH Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar , President of OCM and
Mr. Min Yong Ho, Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd were the Guests of Honour at the Launch.

Samsung announced that they will be launching the Samsung Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay Website soon, for the public to nominate whoever they think deserves to be one of the Torch Bearers at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Relay, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur on 21st April 2008. From the nominations, 18 Torch Bearers will be selected by OCM and Samsung to participate in the Torch Relay.

5th OCM – Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity Golf Tournament 2007
The 5th OCM-Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity Golf Tournament was held on 11th September 2007, at Bunga Raya Course, Saujana Golf & Country Club.? A total of 27 flights participated in the Tournament.
The winning team was the team from the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia. Each member of the team won a 3 days/2 nights with breakfast at the Saujana. The National Sports Council Team finished as Runner Up and each member won a 4 Leveland HiBall Driver donated by Pan West. The team from MILO was third and the prize was a TMade Golf Bag for each of the members. The Malaysian Golf Association team won a SAMSUNG MP3 Player for each of its members by finishing in fourth position. Guest Team 1 was fifth and each member won a MST-Golf PGA Tour Golf Bag. The sixth place was won by the team from the Amateur Swimming Association, and each member won a return air ticket to Jakarta, donated by Kuwait Air.

In the novelty prizes, Encik Machlin Amzah, Encik Albert Lee and Encik Chen Yin Fook each won a Samsung Microwave oven for being closes to the pin, closes to the Line, and longest drive respectively. Encik Chris Chan won a Syard Txv Driver for his feat in scoring a Hole-in-One.

Three new scholarships starting from 2007, were awarded to the following national athletes, Ms. Evy James (Fencing), Ms. Chen Hui Jing (Basketball) and Mr. Sabri Nullah (Fencing)

The Olympic Council of Malaysia and the Organizing Committee of the 5th OCM-Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity Golf Tournament wish to thank all the sponsors, donors, supporters and the participating teams and players for their support of the Tournament.? In particular, special thanks must be extended to the Management of Saujana Golf & Country Club for continuous strong support of the Tournament.

4th OCM Executive Board Meeting
The 4th OCM Executive Board meeting was held on 11th September 2007, at 4.30 p.m. at OCM Board Room, 1st Floor, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. The following important matters were decided:

  • Nominated Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ W. Y. Chin as OCM’s representative in the Malaysian Delegation to attend the Workshop on the bid for the Youth Olympic Games 2010.
  • Fixed the final date for selection and consideration of appeals of the 24th SEA Games athletes and teams to be on 25th September 2007 from 2.00 p.m.
  • Selected Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan as the winner of the 2007 IOC Trophy.

 2007 IOC “Sport and Promotion of Olympism” Trophy
The Olympic Council of Malaysia, at its 4th Executive Board Meeting held on 11th September 2007 selected Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan, Deputy President of OCM, gold medallist in 1962 and 1966 Asian Games, Medical Adviser of the Commonwealth Games Federation and Chairman of the OCA Medical Commission to be the winner of the 2007 IOC Trophy with the theme of “Sport and Promotion of Olympism”.

In proposing Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan for the 2007 IOC Trophy, HRH Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM and IOC Member in Malaysia stated that Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan, is the most qualified Malaysia, who has? promoted Olympism and its values, particularly those of “excellence, respect and friendship” at a national or international level, throughout his life.

HRH Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, added that Y.Bhg. Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan, has managed to perfectly balance his life between sports and his profession, as a student, after retirement as an athlete as a doctor and sports leader in the field of sports medicine and doping control.

Da Ma Cai National Wushu Championships 2007
The 2007 Da Ma Cai National Wushu Championships Media Launch was held on 13th September 2007. Present were Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Kee Yong Wee, President of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, Mr. Desmond Yong, Organizing Chairman, Mr. Yap Seong Ling, Marketing & Communications Manager of Da Ma Cai Malaysia. Mr. Loong Chek Hock, Secretary General of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia and Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi, Honorary Secretary of OCM.

The Championships will be held on 1st and 2nd October 2007 at Stadium Badminton Kuala Lumpur.? The Grand Finals and Closing Ceremony will be held from 7.30 p.m. on 2nd October 2007.
